My partner and I were getting married. We'd been living together for years — we didn't need another set of plates or a third toaster. What we wanted was simple: a way for guests to contribute towards our honeymoon, chip in for a few big items we'd picked out, and maybe grab something small from a store they liked.

But every registry we tried had the same problems:

• Exorbitant fees.Some platforms charged up to 30% on cash contributions. A guest gives £100, you get £70. That felt wrong.
• Store lock-in.Traditional registries tied us to one retailer's catalogue. We wanted items from different shops on one page.
• Inflexible contributions.Amazon wouldn't let guests contribute partial amounts towards an item. It was all or nothing.
• Fragmented information. With gifts scattered across multiple sites, tracking who gave what for thank-you notes meant spreadsheets.

I'm a software engineer with over ten years of experience. When I couldn't find the registry I wanted, I built it. GiftPlan.io started with weddings, but the same flexibility works just as well for baby showers, housewarmings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other milestone moments.
